A quarter-mile size asteroid is heading directly towards earth, and is expected to pass within 0.85 the distance between the moon and the Earth at 5:28 p.m. CST on Tuesday.
In unrelated news, a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System — which enables the president to address the public during emergencies — is set for 1 p.m. CST. It will be conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission.
